The NASEO Geothermal Heating and Cooling Working Group brings together State Energy Offices and private sector experts to scale the use of geothermal technologies to heat and cool buildings. The objectives of the working group are to

  • Create a forum for all State Energy Offices to explore the affordability and reliability benefits of geothermal heating and cooling technologies;
  • Bring together State Energy Offices and private sector partners, including geothermal heat pump manufacturers, developers, industry associations, and workforce specialists, to low the cost of heating and cooling buildings using geothermal technologies;
  • Elevate State Energy Offices authority and experience in addressing key geothermal market challenges, such as streamlining local regulations, workforce training and development, demonstrating technology innovations, financing and strengthening industry partnership and investment.

The working group will cover ground source heat pumps, geothermal district systems, and other related technologies. Use cases include residential, commercial, and public buildings, as well as high-priority large loads such as data centers. States will learn from each other, industry practitioners, and experts about the technologies, programs, policies, business models, research, and innovative financing that can scale geothermal heating and cooling.

The Working Group will convene bimonthly and welcomes all State Energy Offices, along with NASEO Affiliate Partners, industry experts, and federal representatives to attend. Please reach out to Maddie Koewler (mkoewler@naseo.org) for more information.
