Carrier Global Corporation, a NASEO Affiliate Partner, became the first HVAC original equipment manufacturer with a rooftop heat pump product to meet and exceed the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Commercial Building HVAC Technology Challenge’s energy efficiency and capacity requirements. Based on laboratory validation tests, the Carrier system delivers 100 percent heating capacity at 5°F, exceeds 70 percent heating capacity at -10°F, and surpasses DOE’s advanced commercial HVAC efficiency standards in the 10-14-ton rooftop heat pump category. Carrier is one of eight original equipment manufacturers participating in the DOE Commercial Building HVAC Technology Challenge, an initiative to produce innovative rooftop units that meet advanced energy performance specifications, coordinate with DOE Better Buildings partners to conduct field validations, and make these units commercially available as early as 2027. As of early October, Carrier was joined by fellow manufacturer and NASEO Affiliate Partner, Bosch, in passing the technology challenge with a heat pump rooftop unit product.
