State energy plans and the planning process overall help to guide and build consensus among stakeholders in moving toward a shared goal of meeting future energy needs in a cost-effective and sustainable manner.  A well-constructed state energy plan provides an assessment of current and future energy supply and demand, examines existing energy policies, and identifies emerging energy challenges and opportunities.

April 3, 2025
NASEO hosted a virtual workshop for State Energy Offices to discuss comprehensive state energy planning in the context of meeting growing energy demand. This workshop featured four State Energy Office speakers who have recently released or are in the process of creating comprehensive energy plans to discuss how their planning efforts are being shaped by increasing load growth. The workshop also offered attending states a chance to discuss their comprehensive energy planning efforts and identify successes and areas for assistance.
